Or should I say at The Bistro, The Coach House, Ford Park, Ulverston.
We had, what I consider to be, the best meal of my life at this new restaurant last Friday when it was a French Food night.
I have mixed feelings about recommending it as this could lead to it being packed and needing to book months ahead when I want to go again . . . . .
Worth travelling here from Lancaster puts most of your restaurants to shame - we've been to several. The prices will amaze you for the quality.
The next themed evenings are on Friday and Saturday 3rd and 4th May - Spanish with live Flamenco music - £18.50. Wow.

Lantern Procession Finale in Ford Park
Ness Wilson has confirmed 30 mins ago that help is still needed before, during and after the event that ends the Lantern Procession .
The most pressing need is for people to act as stewards at the event from 8:15 till 10:15 pm this Saturday evening 18th September. If you could do this contact Ness Wilson now on 07766 863618. You will be asked to attend a meeting at the Lantern House at 7:00 pm Friday for a briefing.
Before the event, help is needed in setting up the equipment in Ford Park from 9:00 am onwards throughout Saturday.
After the event on Sunday from 9:00 till 12:00 am there will be work to be done cleaning the litter left the night before.
If you can help in any of these phone Ness as above.

Swarthmore Hall treat
We were up last weekend to enjoy a fantastic treat of the crocusses - see them in their past glory at the side , here. They have never looked better and their memory continues to inspire.
I wonder if they are still in full bloom - or is it too late?
The new ones at Ford Park have now been followed by a beautiful show of Daffodils.
Some very thoughtful planting last year by the volunteers there.
The Crocusses in the Gill Banks planters are just coming out. The Dark Blue Hyacinths are looking great. At the moment it's safe to venture here as a major clean up of dogshit has been carried out. Dog foulers watch out, the Gill residents are out to catch you and prosecute you !
Their patience is exhausted.

Another successful community pottery event
The Lightburn Park Group have again run a great event with the lead coming from Libby Norton who published a leaflet which was ditributed all over the Watery Lane Estate, the block between Quibec Street , County Road and Victoria Road and many of the houses around the Gill.
The room at the Methodist Hall was full from 2 pm onwards with children and adults making wall and tree hangings, candle holders, dishes, nativity scenes etc. Families and adults paid £2 per group and between £1 and £4 depending on how many things they made. Many items cost as little as 20p! Tea and soft drinks were included in the price and families came away having had a great time producing things themselves for Christmas.
Four helpers were available with ideas and advice to ensure a successful outcome!
These will be ready for pick up having been fired for Saturday November 28th.
Our next community event will be a repeat of the dog get-together in Ford Park, which we are hiring, held on Christmas Day last year.
On Christmas Eve we will be again using the 75 spike lights that were seen at the Gill Banks Candle lit walk on Halloween. This time on the spiked railings around the Parish Church for the two Community services at Christingle at 4.30 and Midnight Mass later on.
This is another opportunity to see these unique lights for those that missed the Halloween event.

Butterflies galore
I've never seen so many Red Admirals together than those now at Ford Park Orchard today - about twenty within a few yards.Someone tell me why?

Dog get together in Ford Park yesterday went very well
It was great meeting the enthusiasts though the weather made the event short! We were left uninterupted by Ford Park management as happened last Christmas and left the field better than we found it!
One person reckoned they had told 50 people. Some of our main supporters were away. The idea, it was agreed was obviously a good one and we should make more effort in publicity. Word of mouth, largely used for yesterday was greatly favoured (Youtube helped).
Next do will almost certainly be on Christmas Day at ten o'clock - the repeat of last year - see below. By then, numbers would be swelled by the people coming into contact with us through the Mural Activities in Gill Banks and elsewhere see below.

Who let the dogs out in Ford Park on Christmas Day
At last I've finished this promised celebration of great fun event!
This gathering - the first of its kind in Ulverston brought together dogs for frolic. Their human mates enjoyed themselves as well.
Doggy people are great to chat with and responsibly help keep this threatened park for everyday people.
They are the main users of this expanse of grass and keep it in prime condition (picking up litter and other people's dog shit) !
Why not join them one Saturday morning around 9.30 am at Ford Park for a romp?
Nothing formal : maybe see you there!

Dogs - role models for humans!
Following on from the articles on community below - here's something that is already happening spontaneously :
The neighbourhood dogs have been showing us how to enjoy life, socialise, have disagreements, tease and generally . . . live.
People are meeting up with others to benefit from 'Dog Classes' in Ford Park Central Ulverston - classes where dogs teach us a thing or two!
This has been the chance meeting of six or more dogs in the park over the last few Saturday mornings at around 9.30pm
See the video on Youtube which illustrates how much the dogs enjoyed themselves.
The dogs clearly loved it and their owners had a good chat!
It appears that dogs have been given a negative press with the Ford Park management though from my experience the dog owners featured in this video have left the Park better than when they found it!
No dog fouling is tolerated and litter and stones , left there by others, are often cleared away.
I would hope that Ford Park will come up with a scheme by which those enjoying the facilities that are there, can contribute towards the £12 per day cost of keeping the grass cut. Funding for this community land and buildings could well dry up some time in the future and it would be good for it to be able to stay independent of SLDC and local government.
