I was out talking to potential voters in the June election last night.
Several expressed strong views about the work that has been carried out here.
What are yours?
Has there been an improvement?
Was it worth over half a million?
Does the emphasis on Stan Laurel make sense?
It was an idea strongly supported by the Town Council; did they get it right?
Why not let them and the press know your views?
This will encourage/discourage them next time!

I think it looks superb and the only thing spoiling it is the traffic . It would be nice if it could be like a Spanish plaza with pavement cafes . Two things are against that, the weather and the British yob culture.
Bob Swallow in the Westmorland Gazette (letters)said:
"Why can't the local council and its officials leave well alone? I suspect their real motive is to jump on the band wagon created by Eric and Morecambe statue at Morecambe, which certainly increase visitor numbers, albeit to have a photograph stood next to him sucking an ice cream.
"I can think of little more repulsive than such a situation with AW (Wainwright).
I feel that the same applies here.
They'll struggle off their coach, take photo, visit museum for ten minutes walk down to Argyle Street and be back on their coach in 30 min - Peter Rabbit at Bowness next stop followed by . . . a ride on a steamer.
Tomorrow it will be Glasgow etc
And what's wrong with that ? Maybe they will stay long enough to have a meal ,buy a paper or a gift ,get to know the town a little and come back another time . Do you think Ulverston doesn't need tourists ? Anyone who has a business would disagree. Businesses employ people ,pay rates etc. It must be good for the town.
Irrespective of tourists. Are locals pleased with it? I am, it's a great improvement. It will become a focal point for occasions and festivals. I dont think the theme is particuraly important, what is important is the regeneration of the town. There are some individuals whom will 'yarp' about any project that is not their idea!
Great to have these widely different views.
Thanks for contributing.
Personally, I find the whole lot a big disappointment.
The design is a dreadful mix of curves, kinks for parking, straight-lines, colours of the cobbles across the street fighting the colours of the paving stone. Bollards some round cast iron, some square slate.
Not a place that I will want to sit in and relax - instead a dreadful jumble!
Dear Geoff
I wonder if you know anything of the way that the layout for the new County Square was arrived at. Given you interest in shared pedestrian spaces I wondered if that sort of consideration figured at all.
Of course you may think it an excellent design but I think that what we have ended up with is a wasted opportunity.
