I've just filled a very thorough survey that SLDC have commissioned in order to determine the housing needs in their area.
They have it as an important issue to find housing for local people so providing as much information as we can will put pressure on them to enact helpful policies

It's your chance to inform the council of what the needs in this area really are - particularly in reference to the need for affordable housing.
It occurs to me that it may be a way of alerting them about second homes and holiday cottages - fill it in as though you were the owner - the information on the property should still be valid.

Might help if the powers that be put a halt to all the comparatively well off offcomers invasion we have experienced over the past few years. it doesn't add to the town's diversity or (God help us) "richness, it destroys what little heritage we have and turns the place into a playground for "rich" offcomers whilst the offspring of locals have to move out. Personally I'm in favour of a spot of "ethnic" cleansing!
I agree. We need to preserve a better class of people - us!
But then, how come I see myself as an Ulverstonian when I came here from Birmingham.

Many locals don't appreciate what they've got here!
Many people - "locals" DO appreciate where we live which is why they (in my experience) get so peed off about seeing it diluted and subsumed by so much immigration into the town and area. Take our local shops - many are aimed at the tourist/incomer trade and are of little use to locals. I believe that the States of Jersey government restricts entry to would be residents there to only those who have millions so that they buy only the grandest properties, leaving humbler properties exclusively to locals. The way forward.......??

It's a difficult issue.
Worth sorting out our priorities though.
Once one has agreed a policy then other things drop into place.
Make no policy at all then undesirable 'creep' takes place.
For example properties become either second homes for those with money living elsewhere or those selling properties with a high relative value retire here (like me) and become a drain on resources and snap up houses badly needed by young people.
There's got to be an alternative - but what is it?
Are there many 'second homes' in the area?
