How many people visit London on a regular basis?

We enjoy a visit to keep in touch with 'the outside world' - it gives us a perspective on life in general.

We go for the day and always stay above ground, walking most of the time but also the upstairs of the bus.

We've just booked for the new Hockney exhibition and are going to meet Leonardo da Vinci (!).

This, Allan tells me, is from a previous winter.

I see the forecasts are for bitter cold weather with it looks like dustings of snow until a weeks time when there may be a heavier fall.

Please to say that we on our lane are ready again to tackle whatever is thrown at us.

Two neighbours have already armed themselves with grit that can be picked up at the SLDC depot in North Lonsdale Road. I suspect Cllr James Airey has had something to do with ensuring that this supply is available.

Well done James - lead  by example!

Here's the band - Free Band Reel - that created the impressive eerie music

The combination of penny-whistle left, melodeon, and guitar right playing tunes in the minor key worked wonders.

The twenty Spike Lights with flares were dramatic. The remaining 85 holders made do with candles!

Lastly another photo with just two of the 'Spike Lights'.

Locals don't need telling that these are from the recent celebration of the completion of the renovation of Hoad Monument.

If you want to climb to the top and enjoy the inside of this building then visit:

Until the end of September, including Bank Holidays every Sunday from 2 pm until 5 pm.

In October : every Sunday from 1pm until 4pm, when the flag is flying from the flagpole adjacent to the Monument.

Opening times are dependent on volunteers and there may be additional times - the surest guide is the flag up the pole!
