Sadly , they've gone!

To the West Coast of Scotland and beyond.

Starting at Drumnadrochit, via Eigg, Mull and Iona .

You missed an amazing evening

But you lucky guys, they're stopping off nearby at Arnside on their way home to London.

Hear them at Arnside Village Hall in just over a fortnight on the Evening of Sunday 5th June .

Better book your ticket now!

They'll be high as kites after what I'm sure will be an exhilarating tour.

With material like this what else?

UCAN, the group behind the Lantern Procession Finale, say "Thanks"

They made a point at their evening meal on Saturday that they wanted it known that were very appreciative to a long list of commercial interests in the town for the food and drink they were able to enjoy.

The meal took place in The Coach House, Ford Park after a very long and hard working day erecting all the equipment needed for the Lantern Procession Finale. Then the equipment was taken down that evening before the much appreciated refreshment was enjoyed.

There was miraculously, hot food thanks to an Ulverston  restaurant , sandwiches, biscuits, beer, wine and hot drinks all provided by a very long list of businesses in the town.

Fiona was very keen that these businesses should know just how grateful the crew of the UCAN group were to have these contributions donated by an appreciative town.

It's Furness Tradition Weekend in Ulverston

I was hoping to go to the "Big Merry Neet - The Big Party" at 7:30 tonight in the Coro but I've a spitting headache.

We'll see . . . .

The Town is still buzzing

I can't get over how lucky/privileged we in Ulverston were, to be visited by, not just six, but eight very very talented performers.

They have left waves and waves of 'feel good' all over the town and I suspect the surrounding district fifty miles out.

The Coro was absolutely packed in fact it was extremely full half and hour before the show was due to start last Friday night. One got the feeling that some had camped out in the freezing cold the night before in order to secure a good seat.

There was a lovely friendly bubbling of excited anticipation well before the 'curtain went up'. During the show the man behind me chortled and laughed in the most relaxed way possible.

Here we had a co-ordinated group of top performers that were encouraged to demonstrate their individual talents to the full. What a team.

What was transmitted was a group of individuals that were enjoying themselves being creative to the full. A whole range of talents were poured out. Not a minute was a boring repetition of anything that had gone before. Each player played their parts with gusto and confidence.

What's more we were treated to the full works of eight instrumentalists. The two that additions to the six above were no sidekicks either. Ulverston was being treated to the very best. A show worthy of the Albert Hall and great venues of Europe that they frequent.

The only shows that match this for me are the Manchester Camerata - when occasionally you know that every musician is there because they are enjoying themselves with every part of their being. Similarly when people we know well in real life, demonstrate that they can become characters that are hard to recognise because of the roles they play in The Outsiders.

As you see I've been really carried away by this experience. Who's going to match this by bring us another show of similar high standard in a year's time. (My memory bank of positive experiences is now topped up and will last that long I reckon).

Can we book them again for 2015 please.

Who are they?

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain of course!

Anthony John Clarke visits Ulverston

Don't miss it!

Anthony John Clarke £7.00

There are very few places in the UK and Ireland that Anthony John has not played, his supporters are loyal and many and the tributes he receives from his peers bear witness to the talent and hard work of one of the folk scene's nicest guys. With several albums of songs to his name he retains his reputation as one of the top songwriters on the scene. His hard work and dedication to his craft are a credit to him.

In the words of the man himself:-

"People don't leave the house to be bored to death. You have a responsibility to entertain and avoid being self-indulgent. I avoid being professionally Irish as much as I can. I'm from Ireland and I love Ireland but that doesn't mean I have to go on about Ireland all night. Just because I'm an Irish songwriter doesn't mean I can't love the Kinks and the Small Faces, Wes Montgomery, Coldplay, The Dixie Chicks, Christy Moore or Frances Black. I like the songs of George Formby . They were my first delight musically and I liked listening to them with my children as they were growing up" Anthony John speaking on BBC Radio Merseyside 2005

If you've not seen an Anthony John Clarke Concert, give it try! If you've not heard his music, you have a treat in store. He is no ordinary songwriter, and the warm feeling that you experience when leaving one of his shows will stay with you forever.

At the Sports Club next to Ulverston Swimming pool and Sport's Centre. Doors open as usual at 7.45pm. Tickets available on-line www.slmp.btinternet.co.uk/ by telephone 07743 555227, or on the door.

Coming up

Old people - meaning those that are retired - a bleak future - for the tax payer - shouldn't oldies be doing more for the community? What's the role of the Furness U3A that has some 250 members?

Housing - How do we cope with Ulverston being a town that attracts people to want to come and live here?

Charitable organisations in the town - does the benefit of the National Lottery and other sources of funds mean that they become out of touch with local people.

Hope are our new county councillors performing since being elected last June

Exactly how do our rivers, surface water and sewage operate in the town

Continuing - the state of our pavements and roads

Who are the councillors doing a 'good' job?

Which are the local government departments doing a 'good' job.

Another poll . . on?

Who let the dogs out in Ford Park on Christmas Day

At last I've finished this promised celebration of great fun event!

This gathering - the first of its kind in Ulverston brought together dogs for frolic. Their human mates enjoyed themselves as well.

Doggy people are great to chat with and responsibly help keep this threatened park for everyday people.

They are the main users of this expanse of grass and keep it in prime condition (picking up litter and other people's dog shit) !

Why not join them one Saturday morning around 9.30 am at Ford Park for a romp?

Nothing formal : maybe see you there!

At 11.20 am Tuesday Laurel and Hardy made us shake again

Well, we all rumbled a little !

Does this call into question the burying of radioactive waste?

Or will this be another fine mess we get into?

Mind you, 9km is a long way down!

Worth a visit

10 to 15 minutes from the town centre is Swarthmoor Hall.

No wonder people are visiting it at the moment!

Thank you to all those that allow us to share their splendour!
