Murdoch's criminal empire is being uncovered, but he is still calling the shots and could get the BSkyB prize. I just signed a petition to make sure Cameron and Hunt immediately stop the deal and ensure it is assessed on whether Murdoch is morally fit to be given half our country's commercial media. Join me!

Encouraginng each other to be assertive is something that is very important to me! Relying on others can be very frustrating. People using their own initiative can often achieve far more. Self belief is important! We llive in a town where this already happens so much . It will be natural for us as to do this more and more..

The great -hypocritical - English public
Those who will now go out and buy a copy of the last edition of the News of the World tomorrow.
Something that Murdoch will greatly appreciate and help him fund his further 'evil' plans:
BSKYB
The Sunday Sun
There are so many sickening examples of people jumping on the "down with the NOW" bandwagon who will delighted to do the same all over again and support and curry favour with Murdoch.
People who will now switch their allegiance to another Red Top, even though we have been told that the problems with the NOW journalism are endemic - another Red Top will attempt to act in exactly the same way.
They could of course buy the Guardian ( who exposed this cesspit) or the Sunday equivalent the Observer . . . (tongue in cheek).
The only politician I've noticed so far that has come out of this clean so far is Shirley Williams who stated on question time that she has never been to a Murdoch Party. We learn that both Labour and the Conservatives have both been eager to "jump into bed" with Murdoch in order to gain his favour. He is recognised as being strongly influential in steering our so called democracy.
No wonder people are getting fed up with politics and now even switching away from newspapers altogether - so what will take their place? - Blogs like this linked by Twitter ?
I hope that at the same time we will have and support good investigative journalism like the Independent and the Guardian to name two and hopefully more of this locally -will the Evening Mail change away from its sex, drugs and violence approach?
Lastly - I fear that the same morality is also pervasive of Ulverston Society where secrecy and denial of information to the public is endemic.
Don't let's kid ourselves that the problem is somewhere else - it's here too.

The chief enemy of British freedom at present is the British press.
Simon Jenkins says it a lot more effectively than I :-
"Straw has left justice to the tender mercies of the press.
Under the banner of transparency, ministers have allowed a frenzy of blame to develop around the Jon Venables case."
It is clear from the comments left on this blog (which have not been published) that there are a substantial number of people who could be persuaded to be unthinkingly cruel to others if the media hyped up their emotions so that they stopped thinking rationally.
This is not new in other societies but it was not my concept of what Ulverston people are like. In fact, I suspect, they form a small be vocal minority and I'm thankful that my friends aren't like this.
This however is a warning that we should not take for granted that we have a town where people are considerate of each other. We could put even more effort into bringing people together so that we all see each other as human beings and not caricatures painted by the press.
The media has a lot to answer for in the way it repeatedly reports on people's emotions rather than emphasising rational information.

Witch hunts again

Once again sniping media and misguided politicians are undermining our government.
I will be dismayed and saddened if Baroness Scotland resigns.
This story echoes what is found all across our British society : the wish to snipe and tear others to shreds over extremely trivial issues.
Can we have some positive reporting please?

Prince Charles at the Dimbleby lecture
Wow.
An impressive lecture last night.
I was stunned by the depth of his insight and how he touched on such a wide range of topics and brought them all together.
Does he pose a significant alternative to the leadership of the country?
Looking forward to reading what the papers have to say.
I hope that they don't just pick on climate change - there was far more in the lecture than that. For me he dealt with a great variety of topics concerning our environment: In particular the loss of our communities.
What will the papers and television think of his views. Will politicians follow his leadership and listen?
What will the general public make of it?
I'll certainly be reading his speech again and hope that others also find his views important.
Well worth the 50 minutes time to watch this program on iPlayer.
The full text is available here.

The Media Lynch Mob
Are we not going too far with our fury with MPs?
Will there be suitable candidates to stand in their place?
It could be very difficult to persuade them back with the treatment some of them are getting!

Swine 'flu - a media frenzy
Is it time to stop reading the papers and watching TV; and just get on with life?
Let's have some reporting done when there is something real to report.
Thankfully some reporters put us straight.

G12 and demonstrations
It was reassuring that the world leaders saw the need to come together and agree action. The proof will be in the pudding - and we would be fools to expect anything in the future other than hardship.
What I found really good was that no matter how hard the press and the police conveyed the message that there would be problems with demonstrations; there were only minor ones with one guy smashing a RBS window followed by a wrecking invasion of property (no doubt there were more that I didn't see). The sad thing was that those nearby didn't manage to stop this mindless emotional outburst - but they clearly tried.
It was good to see Joe Public getting involved. Let's hope this display of community involvement continues when they get home - I'm all for it !
