Can anybody explain?

Why do we read the news?

We end up becoming gleeful that others are getting their comeuppance as in the case of Murdoch et al and that the financiers can't cope but in reality what we need is a completely new set of values where people come first.

This can start now with my neighbour.

Instead what it does is get us depressed or desensitises us so that we don't care about anything because all we see around us are problems.

Isn't it better to focus on a small world and take some action rather than become paralysed, anaesthetised.

I get the feeling that there is so much needing action that it leads me to feel depressed and I do nothing.

Are people so busy that they have lost the ability to stop and reflect. Then they could reorganise their lives so that it became positive again.

Thankfully , I have some friends that remain positive whatever hits them!

And some are being hit really hard.

Thank you friends - I appreciate your ability to cope.

We cope only when inspired by the likes of you Geoff.
You are a real example and tonic
You are one of "THE OTHERS"
A Fellow "OTHER"

Yes, people like the "others" are what makes for true friendships.

Being with people who "soldier on" are an inspiration to us all.

I can hear Phil Hopwood using this phrase as he was dying. I come back to it time and time again.

Thank you all you battlers out there.

You raise my spirits repeatedly when life gets tough.

I'm beginning to understand how I can cope with the hard patches in life:

First do something entirely for yourself - here the piano, allotment, chess and pottery rate highly.

Secondly do things with friends particularly the very young; be available should any need support in any way - here one has to be careful to build in a reserve of energy that can be tapped into.

Third, do something with others locally who are positive and proactive - here the group doing Mill Dam Park, Gill Banks, Candlelit Walk and the Flag Group rate highly.

Fourth, get involved nationally and internationally giving support in a few chosen areas one can get to know well.

Fifth, avoid taking on all the problems thrown at you through the news - here find some articles from positive people and feed back encouragement where possible.

Lastly, develop a ducks back attitude that causes negative behaviour towards you to flow off without making an impact - difficult if you're a sensitive, caring person.
