It could happen here!

Couldn't it?

We're having talks with Tony Naylor of SLDC to see why not!

How about :

Mill Dam Playground

Gill Banks

Lightburn Park

Just for starters.

Great idea but all areas where dogs piss and shit, surely not good for eating.

Could it be that we overreact?

What's wrong with washing.

Besides, it's been found that exposure to animal shit produces healthier teenagers.

Our bodies have been developed over millennia to deal with this kind of thing.

In fact it is thought we are developing problems because of the lack of exposure to germs - asthma ?

Not that I tolerate people leaving the dog shit behind - there's a balance.

Toxoplasmosis from cat shit that can kill un-born children, toxocariasis from dog shit causes blindness and makes over 100 children a year blind.

Also other nasties like Hookworms and Roundworms.

This statistic is much banded about.

First a quick check states that the dogs in question must have the worms themselves, so its not the shit in itself. It's the possibility that the dogs are infected.

Infected dogs themselves are a hazard.

The figure of 100 per year is questionable as no reliable data is kept. The 100 refers to partial blindness.

Compared with other hazards this danger is small. By contrast heart failure is of major concern. Those that have been exposed to germs from dirt have a stronger immune system and apparently more resistant to heart attack.

We can at times get so up tight about every threat that we don't give our bodies the chance to develop a healthy resistance to disease.

Dog shit needs cleaning up I agree but are we going to stop our children going anywhere dogs may have fouled or where this shit has been carried to.

And what about cats? We conveniently forget about them but they can carry a similar disease. Thankfully we don't stop children having contact with them or the dogs that are infected.

Best of all let's have the courage of speaking out when shit is not picked up. I've found that done suitably people are very responsible when put on the spot.

Having a bag in one's pocked helps and picking it up whenever we come across it would help solve the problem dramatically.
