Work starts on the cobbles in Market street

It's good to see:

1. That cobbles well up into the market square have been taken up rather than just those close to the junction with New Market street. Let's hope that this will apply at the lower end of Market Streetso that work extends right past the junction with Union Street.

2. That I.T.Shaw, a local firm are doing the work, presumably subcontracted to Amey. What they've done  elsewhere in the town - The Gill and the path at the bottom of Hoad has been excellent.

This is looking very promising. Well done Highways department: so far very good!

I have no confidence in this firm I T Shaw. They were also sub-contracted to grit Ulverston streets. They drove round in an inadequate lorry ,usually with the hopper turned off. Money for old rope my friend.

What's happening with the flag festival? Where can people get information? You said you're in charge of this now.

Well done Geoff.Your obsessive and quite unreasonable fixation with a few loose cobbles has cost me a load of cash and caused the biggest disruption seen in Market Street for years. Have you ever considered emigration? Azerbaijan would welcome you!

And why don't you practice walking around on your hands!

Your upside down vision would then benefit you.

Contractors who are not made to do a good job by the County Highways leave the cobbles in a dangerous state. If the latter had done their job of supervision well we wouldn't need to be spending any of our money on repairs.

Get yourself a good County Councillor who will see that our 'servants' do a good job instead of sitting playing at 'being important' as the last lot did.

"good....councillor" is a contradiction in terms, much like "local" government!

Maybe I do walk on my hands, me and circa 10000 others in the town! The thing is Geoff, NOBODY I ever spoke to about cobbles/setts could see THAT much wrong with them.Ergo, no need for the excessive expenditure and disruption.

For the most part I agree.

Do you bother listening to what I say on my video.

Nearly all of the stretch of cobbles between New Market Street and Brogden Street are fine - just a few patches on the side of the road that could be repaired without closing the road.

A major waste of our money digging up a perfectly good road surface that will outlast any stretch of asphalt in the town if properly repaired should access be need underneath.
