You won't read many statements like this!

I believe the Coalition's strategy of dealing with the economic crisis of causing cut backs to very needy services and putting hardworking people out of work is blatantly wrong.

Why?

Because they are having little effect on me.

If they aren't affecting me much then this must also be true of millions of others who are keeping quiet.

I suspect the coalition is afraid of tackling this problem in a fair way because of the fear of repercussions from people in a similar situation to me.

The government policy must be seen as fair.

Clearly this is impossible.

Fairness doesn't exist.

But the idea that Cameron is promoting 'the big society' where everyone participates is for me a total myth.

When I read that bankers and owners of big companies like Tesco are really suffering then I shall begin to believe that Cameron and his cronies are being fairer.

Besides the country is taking its eye off the really important issues:

Global warming that is cracking on at a greater pace and

The limit of the worlds resources. The Government's policy of 'growth' totally ignores this issue:

The amount of accessible iron copper wood oil is finite and we are consuming this at an ever increasing rate.

We are on a clear and undeniable road to total disaster and responsible people in government refuse to admit it as it will scare us all shitless if it's every stated by a ruling party.

Another thing : vote AV .

It's essential if responsible politicians are to be heard.

With two main parties fighting each other, neither will want to ever admit the truth - it's a vote loser.

No one wants be told they are doomed they'd rather live near a volcano and be told

"It will all right dear"

"Don't worry"

"We have everything under control"

"We humans are really superhuman and infallible."

Well I say :

Be realistic and enjoy what time we've got on this planet.

Do something crazy and enjoyable:

Fly a flag .

They will be out to enjoy on Friday.

Have a good week end !

One thing Cameron could do to convince me he is serious about saving our cash is cut all goverment spending/subsidies on the arts - 100%.

If "the arts" are as popular and loved as those involved make out then there should be no problems, they will, by definition, be self-funding since people will pay to see/hear them.

To some degree I agree with you.

I see a lot of the work our group do as 'art'.

And it is totally self funding with no grants coming from elsewhere other than us.

The Pottery on the Railings, The Flowers in Mill Dam, The Candlelit Walk at Halloween and now the Flags during Flag Fortnight.

I also see a lot of spending on 'arts' in the town that I disapprove of. Much of it comes through people who have become professional grant seekers: there are several here who are very good at it.

In my view much of this art is driven top down. They consider what we would like; give it to us; regardless of whether we want it.

If money is handed out - and I would want it to continue - it needs to support activity that the community is wanting to happen in the first place :

Grant giving needs to be bottom up not top down.

There are many activities which I would want to see supported but this is a key word 'supported' not the main source of provision.

The ones to support are those that already have a lot of the people in the community involved.

If this is happening then support them with cash but this needs to be carefully monitored.

You have out-shined the better town team by your teams efforts.
You have propped up and supported them despite shabby treatment.
You have served a belief and a cause to make the town better and attractive.
You can put your head on your pillow with a smile on your face tired but happy.
Well Done.

Thanks.

But isn't the above premature given that none of the flags are out yet!

They are due to go up outside the Coro at 9 this morning and it's only 7 am

Neither do we know what surprises Ralph Spours and Peter Winston have up their sleeves.

Isn't it great that so many people are involved?

Hopefully others will be encouraged to get involved for next year.

Meanwhile there are other projects to get involved with:

We have plans for Pottery in the Beck at Gill Banks; Mill Dam Park and then the Candlelit walk up into the wood of Gill Banks.
