Only by writing to them will they begin to change their attitude.

You need to be clear what websites you're refering to and that they are comparable (ie all council site or all commercial or all personal).
The google links will give varying results, for me I get the Wikipedia for each town.
As I say in the preamble:
Imagine that you're a tourist trying to plan a holiday, compare the results of a search on Google for the various towns.
Remember you would be looking to be persuaded that Ulverston was a special place to visit (which it is) you would want accommodation and somewhere to eat.
One would hope that you'd quickly find out when the next festival was taking place!
