Why can't we sell our water to the South?

Seems a sensible way of raising money doesn't it?

Perhaps we should dam the bay after all.

I do believe a network of pipes taking water around the country from reservoirs etc has already been discussed — likely still is being. To take it from up here might well mean building another reservoir. I can imagine a lot of objections to that. We ourselves have at times been getting short of water. I rather think piping what we have got to other areas (more than what is done now, which is quite considerable) could leave us truly short ourselves more often than we might expect. There are many ways we can use less water. If everyone was on a meter that would could usage down. There is so much waste — like everything else. Where there are areas of drought, I'm sure there is a lot going on that we know nothing about. The cost, in terms of money and power, of building pipelines across the country would be enormous. (The water from Thirlmere goes downhill to Manchester)
