So where can you buy meat at 30p a meal ?

I reckon on 4 ounces or 130 gm of meat for a good meal.

Yes one pound of pork can be bought locally for only £1.20 : that's 30p for a meal - less than the price of one cigarette.

Why would anyone eat but well at that price ?

Answer coming up - quality meat from a quality supplier.

Any suggestions?

People need all the help they can get these days.

just think of how many meals if meat was replaces by lentils or chick peas which provides more protein less saturated fat. JANET

I agree Janet, we don't really need much meet, if at all. Personally I love the variety that's available which makes eating food together so enjoyable.

This posting was a reflection on how cheap it can be in these days when people are saying how cheap supermarkets are - when actually they can be a lot more expensive.

With me it's almost inbred to live cheaply and I'm having no problem with the cost of living because I've aways been able to save. Now perhaps less than before.

For me the standard of living has always been something that we don't need to have so high. I lived happily seventy years ago - and this was in wartime with rationing . . .

Perhaps we could all save up and go to Irvings - outrageously expensive (forget Booths). Bring on Sainsburys, just a damn shame its going to be at Stone Cross.

Thanks John.

This is the point I wanted to make.

The meat I'm talking about is pork nuckle, total weight 2 pounds weight including half bone for £1:20 which was bought at normal price from Irvings in Market Street.

Now I don't call that expensive. Can you do better at a Supermarket?

I doubt it - the profit margin wouldn't be enough, whereas a town butcher like Irvings is far more flexible.

People are blinded into seeing what they want to.

Shopping in town is far less expensive. Avoid expensive supermarkets - they are fooling us.

What do you think?
