Tenants with poor property - continued -again

Something you can do for yourselves : -

Find out what your rights are and what support you can expect.

For a start there is free legal advice available from Poole Townsend in Barrow, Ulverston and possibly elsewhere.

In Ulverston at their offices opposite the post office, every Thursday between 9:30 and 11:30 am.

In Barrow at 69-75 Duke St (Near Cavendish Street) every Wednesday between 4:30 and 6:30 pm

Ever desperate to be the good guy eh G. Did it not occur to you that in a small town such as this people DO know about the free legal advice?

And did it not occur to you that there are tenants in Ulverston that do not understand how to gain what is their right.

I know of three cases myself.

One could not get their landlord to deal with an interior wall that I saw for myself was running with water. Their recourse was to leave.

The second also has severe dampness with water under the plaster from a gully with standing water in it. This constant humid atmosphere is causing resparatory problems. This persons recourse is to move to Kendal because there the housing allowance will be higher. The result will be that we the tax payer cough up even more - because a landlord doesn't do their job.

The third also in Ulverston is looking for alternative accommodation as my property is now let.

My next step will be to contact the enviroment officer at SLDC and see what they have to say. Even their housing stock has properties with severe dampness - I also know of one.

Some of us are priveledged to know the ropes a little - others are less fortunate - others lack the emotional resilience to do something about their problems.

Thanks.

This encourages me to get down to it and write up my next post on the attitude of the SLDC officers.

Worth returning - some good news
