Promises to the gullible

I find it incredible what words are still coming out of the mouths of untrustworthy politicians.

We have Cameron promising us "change".

My, what an original slogan.

Here's a party with originality coursing out of every joint and emitting from every orifice.

"Vote for Change" must be one of the most hackney campaign slogans ever.

It reminds me of the story of a brand of toothpaste being elected into office in a South American country, new to democracy.

The miracles that can be achieved with effective advertising! Which is where Lord Ashroft's millions comes in!

Still, after a century of promises, the Tories adopt the same approach. When asked to explain, they reply

"Trust us, you can see what we stand for. We know what is best for you. Leave it all to us"

Yes and what kind of people are they?

The same people try to pull the wool over our eyes with evasive answers about Lord Ashcroft's non-domicile status.

photo from The Guardian

When are they going to learn that at present the press are having a field day of revealing the dark secrets of our politicians, and that we're waiting for one or two to start telling us the truth.

And now we have Michael Gove, the Tories Shadow Children's Secretary, making outrageous promises that can't possibly be kept on Breakfast News television this morning.

Yes, parents are going to be given the opportunity to set up their own schools if they can't find the school of their choice.

What 'pie-in-the-sky' thinking is this?

Which parents are going to have the energy, money and expertise to carry this out?

At a time of government cut backs?

A very small number - so that won't tax the Tory coffers too much!

Well yes we'll help you get together to formulate your wonderful scheme. We'll support you to the hilt.

Right.

"What, you want some money? "

"You must be crazy. Don't you know there's the worse recess . . . . ."

More empty Guff.

What's wrong with getting into the 'failing schools' and trying to sort out the failed system that produces them.

Of encouraging creative teachers who want to teach their way because they know it motivates the kids, but instead have left education for other careers that allow initiative.

Of breaking the stranglehold that a rigid curriculum has on the making education attractive so that children and teachers actually enjoy going to school. A place where praise and encouragement thrives.

And so you Labour supporters to stand up a cheer! ?

How can a self-respecting Prime Minister tolerate a right hand man like Peter Mandelson who calls for an enquiry into Ashcroft's affairs.

What a self righteous smoothy. A used car salesman par excellence ! As for Ed Balls their education Minister - he's just as bad.

"So who would you support?"

Well the Liberals have some great people though their leader is no great catch. Why can't we see the political parties as teams rather than individual leaders?

(Which is why the upcoming TV will let us down - but at least it's a start)

Reluctantly, I'll be voting Liberal in the next election though I'm not impressed with their candidate, Barry Rabone, who has let me down repeatedly over the past five years. But if there are no good candidates, then, and only then, I vote for the party and rely on his colleagues like Tim Farron, etc, etc, etc and there are lots of them who are 'good guys', to sort him out and show him how to be a responsive M.P.

Mr D. - when are you and that wishy washy opportunist Farron going to get engaged. Your engagement with him and his useless party borders on obsession.

I shall be voting Tory. The reason being that all parties will, wherever possible, shaft me. If I'm going to be shafted I want to be done by professionals. The Libs will cave in whenever somebody shouts at them, the Labour lot will shaft me behind my back (cf the odious Mandelson) but at least with the Tories you KNOW what you're getting.

All I can think to say is:

"What a load of rubbish."

"Why do some people bother to use their precious energy tapping keys and producing that stuff?"

"Why do we allow these people to vote?"

Rather typical! Somebody totally disagrees with you and by definition they must be morons! You waste your vote, vote Lib Dem, if you want. Me, I'm now wavering between UKIP and the BNP. Long live democracy eh?

You do know what you're getting with the Tories - a party that will always put the interests of big business before ordinary voters.

How people are taken in by Cameron's "I'm just like you, look at me cycling to work and going to the pub" photo calls and cringeworthy videos is beyond me.

Interesting article here about how they are planning to decimate the BBC at the behest of Rupert Murdoch http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/mar/02/rupert-murdoch-tory-media-policy - this alone is reason enough not to vote for them; the BBC, along with the NHS, is one of the most precious things we have - it's what we are known and respected for the world over. But the tories are willing to slash it on behalf of a foreign media tycoon whose stock in trade is peddling rubbish and lies.

Sadly,M.T., I'm no believer in Democracy in the form we practice it here!

Just compare the two of you, M.T. and G.M.

Isn't it crazy that one's vote can cancel out the effect of the other.

Fortunately anyone reading the two comments will be persuaded by 'the wisdom' they contain!

Indeed you DO know what you're getting with the Tories. Professional, accomplished and (usually) damned good chisellers!

Why is Cameron any different from Labour Creeps such as Mandelson or the turncoat Sean Woodward who preach "I'm just like you" then rush off to their champagne lifestyles and a selection of rather cushy houses. And the appalling Kinnocks, both n ow engaged in flogging off the UK to that alien concept "Europe" and both doing very well out of it. Hypocrites, all of 'em.

As for the BBC, it grovels and toadies to every minority group there is, including Labour fans. It urgently needs a complete overhaul.

The "a vote for anyone but Labour or Conversative is a wasted vote" mentality is depressing. Do we really want to promote the entrenched two-party system seen in places like the United States (or Puppet A vs. Puppet B as it's often known)?

I'd much rather someone voted for the Libs, Greens, UKIP or whoever else than abstained. And it's not like a vote for them has no effect - if a party like the Libs get a substantial amount of support they can influence policy, either directly or by other parties incorporating (or downright copying) some of their more popular ideas to cannibalise their vote.

I am still floating! I will be interested to see how the parties fair when they have a face to face debate on TV.
I am sadly deluded by all politicians. To my mind, New Labour has been worse than the previous Conservatives. The way things are, we might as well be part of a common European state. Money, money money — the rich have been getting richer and the poor poorer. Living on benefits rather than unemployment pay, appears to be a preferable economy when it suits those in power. When it doesn't then genuine sick people are harassed or hounded. The politicians allow bankers and other millionaire businessmen to rule the country's economy and everyone pays — especially those who have been frugal and never in debt. And hard working men and women in the remains of Britain's industries. Politicians inform teachers what and how to teach. The prisons get fuller and dangerous men organise crime in dark areas of Britain's cities. Drink and drugs increase hospital and Police workloads. Young men and girls fall around drunk at night as though normal behaviour. More work for the Health Service. What do the politicians do about it? It was New Labour that extended the hours of drinking and selling alcohol.
Now New Labour are claiming they will get ALL young people jobs through their schemes. If our industry had not been decimated (and more in the pipeline) there would have been apprenticeships to go to.
I can see little difference between either party. All make promises aimed at the people they are likely to represent. Liberal? Depends on who is standing. Listen to debates in Parliament. Debates? That's a laugh.
Whoever gets in we are in for hard times, except of course, the wealthy who seem to get even wealthier as others get poorer.
I don't complain for myself, but for those who are already in debt through no fault of their own, for workers on low incomes, those who get no 'credits' to help pay the bills, those who want work or better jobs but with none to be had. Those who suffer in silence.
And so too, I feel for the workers of poor countries who always get poorer by being squeezed into working for less pay. Yes, like in wartime, there are always money-grabbers make money through shifty dealing.
Yet I must exercise my freedom to vote. I guess I will just have to weigh up what each candidate says. And the way it is said. MP's should be in Parliament for ALL the people they represent, not just the ones who vote for them. Not just for the party they belong to. If their party is wrong about something they should have the guts to say it. Too much as gone on (eg expenses scandal) that has just been ignored so as not to ruffle the system. Each MP should be prepared to stand up and be counted (as some have) rather than let an influential few (or one man) rule the country. Any candidate prepared to do this is likely to get my vote.

G.M. Are you advocating proportional representation? As things stand, a vote for the Libs is a waste. With PR they might stand a chance, but then so would many of the other minority parties. Believe me there are thousands out there who would cheerfully vote BNP - would you really want them in any position of power?

vote bnp, rid the street of all the coons and pakis

There you go!

This is what we're up against.

I prefer to have an honest representation of what people really think.

Then those of us that take action can do something about it.

In my view 'doing' starts with expressing a view openly , with your real name behind it!

People like to feel that other people share their views. If they find that others disapprove of their stance then they get discouraged.

So what's wrong with foreignors Mr anonymous BNP man?

What motivates you?

Gladys Hobson said...

BNP?
Who wants to live in country with a foundation of Nazi sentiments?
I'd rather be cast ashore on a desert island!

Watch crimewatch and then you will see why people vote bnp

I don't have the spare time to watch Crimewatch so could you explain?
