The Future of the Roxy Building

Someone suggested that this building could form the basis for an Arts /Community Centre for the town:

A place for Ulverston Community to come together : coffee lounge, art space, music space, young people's space, a place for societies to have a base, cinema (of course). Kendal have a societies building - Stricklandgate House - why not go one better?

Come on, let's have some enthusiastic comments.

Or do we want a return to commercialism in the worst possible taste?

NO NO NO in the style of Amy Winehouse!! The town is full of "arts" shops that we do not need. Why build another Lantern House? Why can people not just use the Lanern House?

Several good points.

Do we already have too many art shops - what do we class as art?

Are Fashion shops art shops?

Should avoid art?

Or would it be good for our sense of well-being to have more sculptures like the one by Chris Brammall in the Gill.

How about the efforts being made by the shops in Potter's Yard near Lower Brook street? More or less of these?

Was the mural in Bolton's Place a waste of effort?

The fact that the Lantern House already exists is a very good point. Why duplicate?

Do we need a place where the Ulverston Community can meet? Do the Lantern House and Ford Park already provide that purpose?

Do the Community want to meet? !

Do we need further community services?

How about nurseries for toddlers where parents and kids can gather together as they have at the Baltic in Gateshead. See article above.

If we lose the Roxy, do we lose a cinema?

Do we want something again like carpets? If not, what?

Do we lose a building that could provide something for Ulverston ?

Would it be better to demolish it and build a car park block?

Do we have a place for young people to meet? I'm told, not the way we used to.

What are your views?

Perhaps someone has an alternate viewpoint and sees The Lantern House in a positive light !
