Lightburn group to meet again

Ten people from close to the park attended the first meeting in a private house this last Monday.

In a businesslike meeting that lasted an hour, everyone got to know each other. The use of the park as a place where people of the neighbourhood could get to know each other was the main focus; concerns about traffic close to the park were voiced. Those attending were a good blend of both young and old, with some staying behind to for a chat afterward.

The most encouraging decision was that the idea of a group was definitely a goer and a second meeting is planned for this next Monday 23rd at 8pm in the same place. Some 200 leaflets will be distributed by the group to those in the surrounding area to invite participation at this meeting.

A lot of interest was shown in the use of the park for cultivation by the local people. It was felt that the park provided a missed opportunity for people to meet each other and the possible use of the pavilion to serve refreshments would be a valuable asset. Ways of reducing dog fouling were discussed and the imminent installation of the Skatepark was welcomed.

This is a chance to meet an energetic and very friendly group of people.

Good work Geoff. Two problems come up time after time ,vandalism and dog fouling. The pavilion would have to be made bomb proof to keep the vandals at bay and ,although many dog owners pick up as I do ,many don't under cover of darkness. I have noted that many people send their kids out with dogs for walkies i.e.to crap and they don't pick up. Conversely, some elderly people don't pick up because they never have done .It needs a hard hitting campaign with more prominent poster signs and a few prosecutions. Its up to SLDC
to do their duty as it were ! Again ,well done ,I have criticised you in the past but credit where credot is due.

Many thanks to anon, though you give enough clues for me to think that your name is not Bill!

Dog fouling never fails to attract attention and once again this is true.

Personally I've decided to do two things:

1.Carry dog bags with me and always offer these to people making a mess.

2. Pick it up myself which I now do in quantity! Just waiting for a market for this - in the same way that Guano took off with Victorians:

" This is an effective fertilizer and gunpowder ingredient due to its high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen"

Awaiting an impressive ad. campaign!
