The brand new MUGA in the Honeypot

Looks good - sturdy, well made but where are the facilities for playing tennis and the like?

At the meeting in October we were promised that net games could be included - all conveniently forgotten.

Next; how about something for the skateboarders. This isn't the best location but something is needed locally for young children who should not be expected to travel unattended all the way to Lightburn Park.

Next obstacle to deal with is the provision of lighting so that the MUGA can be used in the evenings and the provision of some youth workers to encourage its use.

Let's keep the pressure on Simon Hughes and the SLDC to keep supporting and extending this facility, perhaps with something more central to the area.

This is an opportunity for Mark Wilson , the new and keen SLDC councillor to show us what he can do!

Croftlands people have a good look - this is what is planned for the Playing field on Central Drive !

Good to see it built and from the look of the photo it's in use.

The ones in Kendal are so popular you have to wait to use them.

It's great to have your information.

This is what's helpful about the Internet.

Sharing ideas and pooling information.

What are the main uses of the MUGA in Kendal? Do you get any friction between the different groups wanting to use it.

Do you have lighting in the evening?

Are there any adults that get involved ?

Any other facilities - like skateboarding? Do you have a chilling out building as they have at Grange?

That is shocking that, for a start the sides should be higher and a net across the top to stop the ball going onto the railway embankment. When i was a kid we would spend everyday playing football on that field and many a time we'd have to climb over the fence to get the ball back from the railway embankment. It's in a bad place which will lead to fighting and gangs of kids gathering at night drinking sat in the dark and more chance of been vandalized. It's great having these but more thought should go into the planning before been installed.I just hope they think more about the one for croftlands and design it in a proper way, even ormsgill got a better one than i've seen in ulverston

A local group voiced similar concerns about who would end up using this. In contrast with Kendal. I believe, and certainly Ormsgill: the site is not easily visible but tucked out of the way.

As far as the design, the lack of side netting is certainly an issue but not spotted earlier.

Another issue - flooding - was emphasised at the original meeting.

I know the Croftland "Safety Group" did want the MUGA to be locked up at night . . .

I've never known of that field flooding before, well it never when i was a kid anyway.Who decides what design they use on this and also be great if we can get a picture of ormsgills version and compare to our version i bet barrow spent more money on there's than we did

The flooding is caused by the Town Beck which passes alongside of the allotments.

This can get blocked by debris getting trapped where the main sewer travels over the top of the beck , a clearance of less than 2 feet.

The lower allotments near the MUGA got flooded very recently because of this.

I've known the beck to burst it's banks but i've never ever seen it overflow onto the field.
