Police activity in Ulverston

An excellent report in the Evening Mail of the police work in Ulverston was sparked off by Gary Fine of Cross Lane, South Ulverston.

It really does make an impact if you attend the Town Council meetings and voice your concerns. That and writing to you local councillor are well worth the effort. The more of us that write and speak up , the more likely are they to do something.

I noted that the MUGA was referred to by the police as offering alternative activities for young people. The People on Croftlands could be kicking up a fuss about theirs which is already nearly six months overdue and may get done by the end of the year.

Contact Norman Bishop-Rowe on this one- email n.bishop-rowe@southlakeland.gov.uk from "Your local councillor in 10 seconds" on the menu here on the right. He's the one responsible.

Dunno why Dellow continues his love affair wuth the local Plod, but, in the last set of published figures of succesful prosecutions/crimes reported:-
Barrow 76%
Ulverston 31%

What can't speak can't lie....can it?

What it doesn't account for is the "quality" of said prosecutions. In Barrow there will be a lot of Scouse drug peddlars in there, violent drunks, wife beaters and murderers.
Whereas in't village it might be the odd sheep worrier, or leaving empty beer cans outside the Neville St rest home

People could have a hard time understanding the comment above !

My interpretation is that originally someone was having a go at me on another Ulverston Forum where a whole lot of nasty negative people hang out - tearing the world apart. It would be difficult to find positive comments about anyone outside of their group there!

Most people shy away after their first visit and never return, shrugging their shoulders in dismay.

To clarify my views of the police is that they are much maligned in many gatherings of Ulverstonians.

They don't have the chance to speak up for themselves and there are too many people who just like to take uninformed potshots at them.

If we take a few seconds to reflect on what it must be like trying to do your best for something you beleive in as a jobe and most people who speak up about them do it negatively.

My attendance at the Town Council meetings indicates that there are few Cllrs who try to familiarise themselves with what they do. The just listen to the reports that are made and their questions indicate considerable ignorance of what they do.

My personal contacts with individual police officers has made me aware of the quality of these people (one through a neighbour's sudden death where the officer took a lot of care and time to help the person come to terms with the partners death.

In another case another officer has done an impressive job of helping underage drinking which appears to have led to a dramatic drop in disruptive behaviour.

Most people I've talked to are truly amazed at the way the pottery on Gill Banks has been respected even though this area has the reputation as a place to down cider at an alarming rate.

Could it not be that the hard work of the police has had a hand in this neighbourhood behaviour?
