Are they ready to pick yet? They will look marvellous on my mantelpiece.

When the Sweetpeas start coming out we will want as many picking as possible!

Makes sure they don't get complacent and think it's time to give up!

Come on Gladys , you're not that old and decrepit yet.

The sweet peas are three inches high and I've just had a large glass of red wine at a neighbour's house.

Can I ever be expected to give an intelligible (note I avoided the word intelligent) reply?

Use your 'nouse' woman (no idea how to spell it - offers please - I'm past caring).

Now I realise it wasn't the noble Gladys anyway.

So much for the effects of the dmon alcohol.

Never mind - the wine tasted very good!

Looking at that bench in the photo needs changing looks rotten.I was looking on the net the other day as i was looking for a garden picnic table but came across some plans to build them along with other things. Now i thought about doing a bench and i think wood would cost me less than £30 bit of time, bit off fun doing it and i get a stronger bench then i would buying it.So this site maybe some use to someone who likes to make things http://www.gardeningdata.co.uk/construction/garden_plans/garden_plans.php Maybe the town can get local firms to build some benches or picnic tables for around the town, maybe place some back of hoad overlooking the town.

The bench in the photo is actually made of sturdy wood though my repairs are strictly temporary.

This is great information - here's the 'clickable' link.

There's a great sense of satisfaction in making things oneself.

I've used a local firm for the two new picnic tables (cost £70 each) in Gill Banks. They are strongly built by a firm connected with Derian, the new DIY centre close by the RC Church in Victoria Road , Ulverston - they have access to a commercial bench saw and use local people to make them.

It's great to be able to provide work for locals here!
