Dangereous parking

On Tuesday 28 June at 20:06

Having stopped and pointed out to the driver that I thought he was parking dangerously, he ignored me and continued chatting to his friend.

I have therefore passed this photograph on to the police hoping that they will follow it up and caution him.

This kind of thing annoys me greatly but you really shouldn't approach people like this Geoff. One day one of these morons is going to chin you and I don't want to see you get hurt. Report it to the police by all means but don't expect them to do anything - they can't be bothered.

Two answers:

I have carefully accessed the risk to myself - I agree I could get hurt but for the most part I believe - and in mt experience of doing similar things - what you state -

is a myth.

you do not get "chinned"

In fact that we have become a very frightened society - we have become timid expecting terrible things to happen.

I have thought carefully about this and intend to maintain my "high risk" strategy because it works - for me.

I agree you have to be careful and more than everything else - none confrontational.

Always best to ask a question and not to make an accusation.

Secondly I find the Ulverston police to be a highly reliable and hardworking group of people. We are extremely fortunate to have so many people of integrity who attempt to enforce the law with considerable humanity.

In my experience of many contacts (including being fingerprinted for criminal damage - reported here on this blog) with the police they have behaved in a favourable and balanced way to the public.

They have to deal with nutters that are forever getting them to race around dealing with minor instances which should require police intervention.

The public need to take sane calming action that will encourage a friendly society that where we all respect each others freedoms.

In the above case of parking - I got no reaction to my question "Don't you think that parking here is very dangerous?"

They carried on as though I was a passing fairy.( No comment you knowhere guys)

The photo was taken as I walked away.

The guy should have jumped out of the car and chinned you to be honest. What gives you the right to try and become a traffic warden for the town

My rights?

My responsibilities.

If I agree that the double yellow line rule is a good one - which I do.

In this case it blocks the visibility of what is happening round the corner - there could be someone pushing a child in a buggy.

Then it is our join responsibility to get people to obey the law. Some think it's the responsibility of the police. They think the police are there to run around and solve society's problems.

I don't.

I see the police as back up for me to try and do a bit to keep society along the straight and narrow.

I use the police in the same way I use a doctor - to help when I need it.

In this case I don't believe I needed help.

As I understand it the police are in fact following the matter up.

We can all work together to help society function to our mutual benefit.

I'd like Ulverston to become known as a place where we welcome people who have learnt to behave themselves.

The rest had better watch out!

JAK - the more one gets involved; the easier it becomes.

One needs a relaxed approach, so that people react in a reasonable manner.

95% of the people that misbehave are actually very reasonable - they just need a little encouragement to not join those that are blatantly hostile.

Another thought -

Traffic Warden - where do you find one of those at 8 pm.

So who does the job - other than us?

As I understand it, parking is not necessarily the responsibility of the police, but of the wardens.

Why should we do the police/traffic wardens jobs, they get paid to it we pay council tax which pays for these services. If they can't be arsed doing what there paid to do then we should leave it until they decide they would like to work

We went around that corner the other day and a car was parked just slightly further round than that one. But cars have parked briefly on that corner for years, especially when newspapers etc were sold there.
Worse maybe - I saw a lorry turn right from the one-way Upper Brook Street (onto King Street) and over the pedestrian crossing while the driver was drinking from a carton.

Geoff old chum,
For once the Rev is in agreement with you.
Iddiots parking in stupid places such as on corners, pedestrian crossing etc should be dealt with severely.
Another bug bear of mine is the motorised mobile phone user who may well stop to answer their phone but please do so in a sensible place. I have seen loonies park on high speed roads, on corners and other such idiotic places.
Turn off your phones!!!!!!!!!!!
