27 Princes street update

The disgrace of inaction by councillors and council over a 12 year period was reported on here on May 11th

This issue has now been to the cabinet meeting on May 27th

The next door residents still haven't been told the outcome.

As far as I can tell Jamie Samson their Conservative SLDC Cllr is not keeping them informed and doing very little to help.

I have just phoned SLDC and talked to Mr Tummie who is the officer dealing with this case and he has guided me through to the report that is included in the document on the internet page below

See Agenda and report

Here it says on page 21:
RESOLVED – That
(1) the strategy as detailed in the report be approved;
(2) Officers be authorised to enter into negotiations with the current
owner to voluntarily acquire the property with a view to selling on to a
Registered Social Landlord;
(3) a report be provided to Cabinet on 9 September 2009, regarding the
details of negotiations and approval for further actions be sought,
should negotiations prove unsuccessful; and
(4) Council be recommended that consideration be made of allocation in
the Capital Programme (Single Housing Capital Pot) to fund the
purchase, if it proves feasible.
Reasons for Decision
To return the property into satisfactory housing accommodation.
Alternative Options Considered and Rejected
Alternative options detailed in the report.

What I understand this to mean is that no final decision has been made.

The SLDC have come to their own valuation of no 27 . They are now going to negotiate with the owner to voluntarily sell his property to the council.

They would then buy it if it is the same at or less than their evaluation.

However he doesn't have to do this in which case it would go back to cabinet on the 9 September when they would again decide what to do!

The residents will need to put further pressure on the SLDC at this time if the negitations have failed.

Yet again Mr Dellow is pocking his nose to something that he does not under stand or is any thing to do with him. For his information I (Councilor Jamie Samson) have spoken to the resident’s representative.

Before you make any comments you should check your facts! I thought you were supposed to be an educated person. For your information I only recall 3-4 emails and 1 telephone call with you. In future do not print my name on this rubbish unless you have checked your facts. My electorate knows how to contact me. All you seem to do is run down the name of Ulverston. Thank fully the people of Ulverston have seen through your interfering meddling. No doubt you will edit this so the people of Ulverston will no get the full picture of my reply.

Jamie Samson you have no right to talk to someone like that, maybe if you did your job correctly in the first place people would not feel the need to contact Geoff instead of you!

Who the hell is jamie samson never heard of him, can't be a local fella i guess.Or maybe he's one of them who get of his arse and go door to door meeting people.Oh don't be silly there's only geoff who doe's something about it,this jamie will just be another waste of space who sit's and lets kendal get everything they ask for while ulverston gets nowt.

Tell you what tho next election think i'll vote geoff and the bnp, they wouldn't let the people of ulverston pay there council tax and get now back instead of funding kendal

"My electorate knows how to contact me"

What a kop out!

The fact that this problem has dragged on for so long without resolution suggests you're doing a pretty poor job for your electorate, who have had to put up with a massive eyesore / fire risk for years.

Since when do people from Dalton sit on Ulverston council anyway?

Jamie Samson doesn't appear to realise just how familiar I am with this situation.

I was at the Town Council Meeting when the residents put forward their case to the Cllrs and how they have been badly let down by their cllrs over the years, starting with Labour Phil Lister followed by Conservative Jamie Samson who told the residents, I am told, that he hadn't helped more because he was new to the job.

Unlike Mark Wilson, I have not seen Jamie at the Town Council meetings which he doesn't have to attend as he's a SLDC councillor.

Whilst I disagree with someone commenting above, that it is necessarily a bad thing that Jamie is from Dalton, I have not talked to any people here that know him.

The most valuable attribute for a councillor is that they get stuck in and try to help sort out people's problems. You don't have to live here to do this but what is Jamie's track record so far?

I shall list some of the problems that I have learnt about that are happening on his ward and will watch what he is doing about them.

I have, however, been able to undo one of his actions:

The removal of the bench that is available for people to use in the Inside Market which was taken away at his request because someone bumped into it.

I was able to get this reinstated as has been described here. The bench is valued by those lacking mobility who need somewhere to rest out of the cold and the rain. It is used by old people as they wait to be picked up by a taxi.

Yes, I'm a right interfering busybody/nobody. Just shows what a determined-polite person can achieve by asking persistent questions.

Others too can achieve the same - it's just a matter of keeping asking "Why?" not to one person but to one after another, after another, after another until getting a result.

People (and Councillors) often give up too easily.

What I look forward to is for the people in Kendal to cringe when they get an Ulverstonian on their trail. Let the word spread that we Ulverstonians are a bolshi lot who want practical answers and action.

Make sense?
