Something that was said earlier

On the Evening Mail web site:

Isn't the root cause of the cost of the toilets, the Tourist Information Centres and to include a really sore issue, the cost of our carparks all down to maladministration by SLDC.

The high paid executives are not doing their job of ensuring efficient operation. Instead of sorting the working practices of their officers and subcontractors out the councillors choose to run away from the problem and make cuts that would not be needed if the council were running like an efficient business.

But stop and consider this. Who employ these council workers and set policy that no businesses would tolerate? We do, through our councillors. So why aren't councillors right across the area trying to straighten this local council's workers out.

The same is true regarding the County Council and the Highways Department the officers take control and the councillors put up with it, they act powerless. Some issues need to be followed and checked through in great detail.

Isn't an important part of the problem that councillors are only too happy to have a poke at a problem and then give up?

Don't we need our councillors to show more leadership in exploring the business practices that lead to our problems. Now is a time for some fiery councillors to make sure that the system runs well.

If they need us to support them in any way they should tell us. How about a march through Kendal or something else dramatic.
Alternatively some well put together videos on Youtube that show up current practices (works for me a treat!).Can't they come up with something that will get the message across?

I'd suggest we need councillors right across the District who take their jobs seriously as though they were running a business. Not just making decisions but making sure they were being carried out. Too much time spent in the Council Chamber and not enough breathing down officers necks.

Does this make sense?

Take note Britain
What the government [of Chile] did warms my heart They didn’t suppress the truth, They didn’t secretly pay anyone money, They don’t make irresponsible statements They don’t forgive those who should be responsible for it; And they don’t laud themselves with cliches.”

If G Dellow was stuck down a mine would the Town council organise a rescue ?

They would probably feel it was their duty to rescue him. He would whinge, moan on and complain all the way to the surface threatening legal action if anyone tried to give him advice before dashing off an aggressive blog piece attacking the councillors for not rescuing him the way he wanted to be rescued, allowing the mine to get into that state in the first place and, possibly going on to mexplain how the town council are to blame for mine related accidents globally.

My.

What did you have for dinner?

Who are you anyway?

What's going on?

Why do some councillors want to pick a fight with me?

I continue to look for people that I can work with to promote Ulverston.

I have found many - why not join us?

Working with the community to improve our streets, to promote tourism and to develop our public spaces and activities are my present priorities.

Car Parking in the town is my next target.

Many councillors have found that I'm always prepared to give credit where credit is due.

Why not be part of this process?

Right, well before you bring your limited talents to bear on the car parking in Ulverston campaign try and get it right. Car parking is run by SLDC who own all the car parks, set the charges, collect the money, issue the fines etc. It has nothing to do with Ulverston Town Council although I read that the Town councillors have already started their own courses of action. So this time you can't accuse them of doing nothing, being lazy, not loving you enough etc etc as they are way ahead of you.

You have opened the curtains on the pantomine caled local government
What name would you give it and what part would you like to play Geoff ?

This discussion is going nowhere and wasting my precious time and energy.

Note: I'm already in touch with Norman Bishop-Rowe and hope to be working with him on the car park issue. He has already taken the trouble of getting the detailed figures on car park usage.

The one I've been working on for over a year now is Stockbridge Lane which everyone agrees is grossly mismanaged and underused.

I shan't be responding to you provocative emails.

Enjoy yourself making a fool of yourself.

Furthermore if the Mayor, Phil Lister, wants to publish his emails to the world he can do so through these comments - but not as anon but as himself.

I doubt that they will bring him much credit.
