Life in the big city

You can spend twenty minutes next to each other . . .

And never say a word!

On the other hand, I gather, these two have met!

But probably not on this bus!

Some people prefer to sit quietly and think their own thoughts without interruption, especially if they have had a hectic day or, is if it is morning, a busy day ahead. I would not want to intrude.
Many years ago, every morning I travelled to the big city on the 5A bus. People would queue at the bus stop in silence, unless with someone they knew and wanted to chat.
Sitting in silence on the bus, I was able to let my mind wander undisturbed. Then one day I became aware I was being watched. I looked up and a young man smiled at me. I smiled back. 58 years later we still smile at each other — only now it's throughout the day.
When travelling, occasionally it's good to talk but sometimes it is good to be alone with one's thoughts.
