A New Venture - talking to a hole!
The use of a web cam and microphone rather/as well as than writing.
The idea behind this is to be able to tell the viewer about my early life which at least one person has shown an interest in.
I find it quite scary but I love exploring new challenges so I'm ready to give this concept a go.
The difficulty I can see ahead is that I will be talking to a hole in my computer - which isn't much fun and doesn't give me any feedback as would be happening in real life. One idea is that I could stick a photo of someone I know over where the hole is (leaving the hole clear) I can then pretend to myself that I'm talking to this person.
I can see that I'm going to have to learn to relax and enjoy myself!
Not easy.
I also intend to write more in a controlled way - maybe just for my open benefit.

I have a web cam too but never use it. I don't often click on video recordings either. On the Internet I like to see in writing what is being said. I dare say, if family or friends desired to talk to me that way, I would have a go. Only tried it with one of them and decided the phone would be best. But usually, I send emails as they can be looked at any time and so more convenient all round.
I shall send a pic, if only you will relate your interesting memories, and true life tales. Too much history is lost of bygone days.JAK

I'm certainly finding my way into this new world of comunication.
It's certainly very tensemaking - somthing I'm going to have to get used to.
I use a webcam occasionally with relatives when there's a need to communicate visually in a way that's not possible by describing over the phone, I've done it over Google+ as it allows screen sharing so I can sort out my relatives problems by showing them what to do visually.
I like your vox pops vids out on the street as well, while I have no preference between written or video, I personally find it easier to understand a point of view when watching a video compared to reading a PoV which can often be interpreted in different ways.

I can see that there are drawbacks in that in contrast with writing you cannot readily edit and produce a polished product - I like the immediacy of connecting to Youtube, talking - and that's it! Yes facial expression, quick and slow speaking and tone of voice can certainly help and if your good at 'letting yourself go' you can have fun with a bit of exaggeration verging on acting which could be fun if you can do it well.
At least, for me it's a new challenge with numerous possibilities. Having something new to tackle certainly makes life for me - fun.
I used to love Alistair Cook's Letters from America - he had such a laid back way of talking and recounting his stories with little to no 'edge' just good reporting - w o n d e r f u l stuff.
Thanks for the street interview feedback - it certainly a thing I love doing. I'm even thinking of taking train and bus journeys just for the opportunity of talking to strangers. I find that I have a yen to find out how people tick.
It's a continuation of my quest to teach (I used to love opportunities in lessons for one to one and tuning into what was in the students minds. Also going out with very young kids - finding how they 'tick'- trying to tune in to how they are experiencing things that they've never ever experienced before - what would be great if I could become like the publican in Zorba the Greek who had the whole world coming to talk to him and recount tales from their lives. What a wonderful way to end one's life as one becomes less and less able . . . . What do you think Gladys ?
