Encouraginng each other to be assertive is something that is very important to me!
Relying on others can be very frustrating. People using their own initiative can often achieve far more. Self belief is important!
We llive in a town where this already happens so much . It will be natural for us as to do this more and more..
if your that eager in clearing snow u.v.h.s are appealing for helpers tomorrow with spades to help clear the paths in the school. There appealing on the website, schools closed tomorrow for safety reasons. To much health and safety these days never closed in my time we just got on with it,and back then we had proper deep snow where the snow plough cleared the roads
With all those students there, it would be sheer lunacy to clear the paths for them.
I went to a school age 7-11 where we cleaned the whole school as the first part of our school day, after breakfast and before assembly when we were given our marks out of 10 for our work.
I remember one day when we swept the dining room for 120 kids moving the tables and benches as we went.
Then because we wanted to get a mark of 10 - we swept the whole lot again.
We got our 10.
The three of us that did the work were aged less than 11!
I understand the Japanese operate a similar system - I'm all for it.
Here in the lane we do the clearing for all of us. Some of us are up to it some of us aren't. Some haven't got the message yet. In time I suspect they too will want to join in. It generates a great sense of pride and 'ownership'.
Dear "Sir of Sensibility" you are so correct. Work experience on the doorstep. Healthy exercise. Staff need to think "What would you do if it was your business"? Featherbed teachers/staff no work NO PAY no problem. They had better not organise a ski holiday this year. JAK
Respect. Geoff you mat not be a fashion item you disturb and P the actors and posers, liars, lazy, and educate. You are blessed with powerfull uncorupted vision.
We should have the same system as Scotland if the teacher cant travel to the school they work at. They should report to the nearest school and help them. Snow days indeed ! Well done Mr Webster Headmaster Walney Junior School not a lot of 3 Rs but wonderfull display of snowmen. He is perhaps OLD SCHOOL with a vocation. JAK
The path shown on the video required just half a bucket of salt and grit to withstand freezing icy conditions.
If you catch the snow shortly after it has landed and before it has been compressed by feet or vehicles then it can be brushed out of the way in minutes - twenty for the whole of our lane by one person.
Then a bit of salt to deal with weeping water from melting snow that then freezes.
I don't want to bore you with another video but our lane has had a snow free path one yard wide nearly the whole length of the lane all the time. Maintained by a few of us - by Paul and Sarah Holmes , Karen, myself and others.
As soon as the snow lands - we sweep it up - job done in minutes!
What a load of smart arses. I can hear you saying!

Believe it or not each time it snows the lane is cleared again to the same high standard by what is now the 'A' team.
The first clearing of the road started at 7:30 this morning.
Get's you warm as well as achieving a result!
We must have the best maintained lane in Cumbria.
Anyone want to prove otherwise?
Respect.

Seven tonnes of grit on way to town
Why all the salt and grit?
The path shown on the video required just half a bucket of salt and grit to withstand freezing icy conditions.
